A baking stone for bread is much cleaner comparing to pizzas. The toppings and oil would make the stone extremely dirty under improper operation.
As you can see from the above picture, there is oil and burn marks as well as scratches from the metal pizza stone peel.
Glazed cordierite pizza stone is not full density as Teflon coating so it would not be non-stick.
Let’s see how can we clean extremely dirty glazed stone herein.

Try the next step after cleaning with water and scouring pad if the oil and toppings are stuck very hard in the stone.
Mind that the bottom of the stone is not glazed and would absorb the cleanser and release odd smelling at your next baking. So, just scrub the glazed side carefully.
After scrubbing with scouring pad, the stone looks much better now. What can we do for the remaining marks?
Remember to use steel wool just only when you can’t clean away the dirty marks by the first two steps as the steel wool would leave scratches on the glazed coating.

Scrubbing the glazed stone by scouring pad would damage the glaze and leave silver gray substance, just brush it away.

Burning the glazed side of the stone can burn away the substance of sticks on the stone but it would speed up the aging of the glaze.
