Have you ever wondered how most famous pizza restaurants do it? It is quite easy if you own a pizza stone. Therefore, your grill can become your sensational cooking place for your pizza. To really enjoy your evening, all you have to do is make the dough for your crust, whip out your toppings and presto and voila!! Your pizza is on its way to belle-town. But how is it made?
Making your Pizza
There is important equipment that is very necessary when making your favourite snack. Apart from the pizza peel (a large pizza spatula-like cutting board that is used for moving the pizza in and out of the oven) and the actual spatula, the pizza stone is what makes the pizza spectacular.
Here we are going to show you how to:
1) Turn your gill to an oven
2) Grill the pizza with a pizza stone
3) Make thin pizza crust
• Making a dough- mix water, yeast and sugar in a small bowl and let it sit for about 10mins. The sitting will activate the yeast making it to foam or froth. If it does not froth then your yeast must be bad.
• In a bigger bowl, add the yeast mixture to a combination of kosher salt and flour. Mix well to thoroughly combine.
• Transfer the mixture now called the dough to a flat surface covered with flour and shape into a ball.
• Remember the larger bowl? Good. Rinse it and place the ball-shaped dough there. Not before you smear the bowl with cooking oil or cooking oil spray. Mix the dough and allow the dough to coat.
• Then cover the bowl with the oil coated dough with a warm wet cloth and allow the dough to rise in a warm environment. After an hour and a half, the dough should double in size. Ps. During this time, you should already be heating the grill.
• Press the dough in the flat surface and roll out with a rolling pin. During rolling, begin in the middle and work it towards the edges. Roll out the dough about 10” in diameter. And as you do that, add flour so it does not stick.
• Place the flat crust on a floured pizza spatula as this will help you to transfer the pizza to the already heated pizza stone after it is topped. Don’t forget to spray or brush the surface of the crust with olive oil before adding the toppings.
• For the toppings, I will recommend 5-7 tablespoons of sauce and few toppings to a 10” diameter crust. Do not try to overload a thin crust and also ensure that the sauce is thick so that it does not penetrate the crust.
In the grill
• By this time the grill must have been preheated enough to put the pizza in without the help of the pizza spatula of course. This procedure could be tricky so, you will need the help of a smaller spatula to guild the assembled pizza in the pizza stone.
• Grill the pizza to your required doneness. I normally recommend 12-14 mins or until when the outer edges are brown all across the crust.
